Blakey Rigg
Built by Paul Greene. (Photos: Andy May)
An overall view of most of Blakey Rigg. The real railway ran from Battersby Junction to the foot of the North Yorkshire Moors escarpment then up an incline onto the moor top. It then ran across the moors to Blakey where a Junction saw it run to ironstone mines on both the East and West sides of Rosedale. A further line ran from near Blakey down into Farndale to serve smaller ironstone mines. On Paul's model it is also assumed that potash was discovered in Farndale, thus generating further, diverse, traffic |
Bouch "1001" class long boiler 0-6-0 1282 running tender first arrives with empty ironstone hoppers. Behind the loco is a stationary boiler destined for one of the mines. |
A closer look at 1282. This model was built by Trevor Nunn and painted by Warren Haywood. |
A close up of the little H class 0-4-0T(later LNER class Y7). The engine body was built from the S Scale Jim McGowan etchings sold by John Taylor and runs on a chassis built using milled rods and frames, also from John. |
An S1 metal hopper wagon with a 3D printed hopper from Jim Guthrie. The wooden hopper wagon is an NER ‘P4’ |
Goods Guard's were hardy in those days. |
1282 about to depart to the top of the incline with a train of fully loaded hopper waggons.
