John Noble's Locomotives

John Noble was a member of the SSMRS from 1954 until his death in 1988. Most of his locos were built in the 1950s to a very high standard.  The Ivatt 2-6-2T has fully working Walschaerts valve gear which changes from forward to backward gear as appropriate before the locomotive starts off - all done with 1950s electronics. 

They all still exist and the photos below were taken shortly before they were auctioned to members of the society in 2010.  Click on a picture to see a larger, blown up version.

 

1.  LMS standard 3F 0-6-0T.

2. LMS 0-6-0 DE shunter by Armstrong Whitworth .  LMS 7059-7068 (later WD and foreign railways). Scratchbuilt by John Noble possibly c1959. 

 

3. MR/LMS 1F 0-6-0 tank.

 

4. LMS Ivatt 2-6-2T.  Scratchbuilt by John Noble c1958 . This is the one with the reversing valve gear.

 

5.  LMS 7F 0-8-0 Scratchbuilt by John Noble c1957. Motor in tender driving loco via shaft. 

 

6. LMS 5P5F   Motor in tender driving loco via shaft. 

 

7. LMS Crab 2-6-0.  Unfinished. 

 

8.  Scratchbuilt tram body by John Noble.  John built this
